Surf Camp

in May 2023

We are waiting for you again in May with 2 tours!

Location

Costa da Caparica, Portugal

Costa da Caparica, on the southern bank of the Tagus River, is the closest coastal town to Lisbon. It is a real surfer's paradise, but even less known to foreign tourists. The coast is simply stunning, famous for its constant waves, huge sandy beaches, beautiful natural landscapes and lots of sunshine. It is less than a 30-minute drive from the centre of Lisbon.

Accomodation

Magnet Surfhouse Magnet Surfhouse is located in a quieter part of Costa da Caparica, a 10-minute walk from the ocean. It can comfortably accommodate 10 people in 2 and 4 bedded rooms, with linen and towels provided on arrival. The building has a shared bathroom, two toilets and a shared living room. Breakfast is served in the spacious and cosy kitchen, which is also fully equipped. The apartment has free and unlimited WiFi. For a more detailed description of Magnet Projects and the accommodation click HERE.

Headcount

The maximum number of participants is 16. Of these, 10 will be accommodated in the Surfhouse, while another 6 will be accommodated in a separate 6-person apartment just down the street. Breakfast is not included in the separate apartment, so those who choose this option (max. 6 people) will have to provide their own breakfast (the participation fee is lower here, see below). Of course, those who opt for a separate apartment need not worry about missing out on sunset views and evening socialising.

Programs

The camp is all about relaxing, recharging and having fun! Then it’s about learning about surf culture and the basics of surfing. Don’t be afraid if you’ve never surfed before, that’s what this camp is for. During the week you can participate in 5 sessions of Magnet Projects 2 hour surf lessons. And for the really enthusiastic, you can always go out in a group to practice on the ocean beach 10 minutes from your accommodation.

On the Movementors side, we are preparing programmes (mainly yoga and acro yoga) that also focus on surfing and community experience. Surfing for the first time can be strenuous, so our goal is not to push you further. We aim to complement and compensate for the effects of surfing on both a physical and mental level through movement, breathing, relaxation and meditation exercises.

Individually and together, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore Lisbon’s city centre, which boasts a wealth of attractions and is about 30 minutes away by local public transport. Social activities are available throughout, but everyone can spend their free time as they wish.

F.A.Q.

Don’t worry, Magnet Projects’ professional surf instructors will be on hand for 5 days to help you. We’ll practice in the shallows until you have the basics down and we won’t force you to do anything. Remember, the best surfer is the one who feels the most comfortable out there. However, solid swimming skills are definitely a must!

Travel there is up to each person.

Of course not, we are not going to a training camp. If you’re in the mood for relaxing or sightseeing instead of surfing, do as you please! You also have complete freedom for the evenings. There will be community activities throughout, but you can always choose other activities.

Portugal has a subtropical climate, with temperatures in May around 26-30 degrees, perfect for sightseeing and moving around. The ocean in Portugal is always cold but you’ll still enjoy surfing in the wetsuit included in the camp fee. The evenings and mornings are cool with occasional lightning showers, so be prepared for that too.

Shared breakfasts are included in the participation fee ( of course we will take into account individual needs and possible food intolerances ). Two equipped kitchens will be at your disposal, and there are many shops and restaurants in the area full of local gastronomic wonders.

Everything within Costa da Caparica is within easy walking distance. During excursions and to get to the airport, we will use local shuttle buses and/or Uber.

A hoodie and a hat (for wet hair after surfing) can be added to the weather-appropriate clothing. Bring a swimsuit that fits snugly and won’t bother you under the wetsuit. Also, have shoes that you can wear for sightseeing and hiking and clothes that you’ll be comfortable doing yoga in.

You can guarantee your participation by paying 50% of the camp fee (€300) and completing the registration form (details of which will be emailed to you once you have contacted us). The remaining amount will be paid on the spot.

It’s worth digging out your EU Taj card and making sure you have one! We will be insured by the surf school during surf lessons, but not during free surfing. It is worth taking out a general insurance policy (accident, baggage, travel, sickness).

Where did the idea come from?

I had the pleasure of living in Lisbon in 2017-18. From the very first time, I was captivated by the diversity of the city and its incredibly atmospheric atmosphere. It was my first exposure to the surf culture, which gave me an experience that hasn’t faded since. To this day I can still clearly remember the incredible feeling I had when I first got on the board. I also received teachings the likes of which I have only encountered in yoga classes since. It’s hard to put it into words, and I don’t want to throw out a bunch of incomprehensible phrases, so I suggest you come if you’re interested in surfing and experience for yourself what I’m talking about! Thanks to Magnet Projects, you too can get quality surf instruction in Hungarian.

We don't run away from reality, we connect to it!
